Welcome to the Omaha Rose Society!

Our objective is to promote interest in all aspects of rose culture through programs, rose shows, publicity, and participation in rose-related community projects.

Currently, we have members participating in several community projects that are designed to create community gardens that feature roses. Omaha has been designated as the largest center for Texas A & M Research outside of the Texas area. We proudly lead in cold weather rose growing research and are partnered with the University of Minnesota, the University of Nebraska, and A &M! When you join us, you are able to be at the initiation of many exciting research-related projects.

Rose care during the winter months consists of picking the right rose for the rigors of our zone 5 climate. Certain roses are better able to resist black spot and the ills of freeze and thaw that the spring brings. Please attend the meetings that are the third Thursday of each month, beginning in February at the Douglas/Sarpy County Extension Office, 8015 West Center in Omaha. When you come to a meeting, you will have a chance to meet our members. Come early and stay late. You will find a warm welcome.

Goals from 2008 ORS: You, our members, always brought a ready smile and a great Attitude. There are numerous opportunities to work in public gardens—to find your “rose obsessive” garden friend, or to come to learn information about “best” researched-based choices for landscape, gardening, and exhibiting—of the only plant for sun, roses.

“Roses are for sun. All other plants are shade plants.” Don Swanson
